Commissioning Poetry from JC Niala

Welcome to JC’s poetry corner:

There is a place where the foxes go
soft soil tended by worms
cubs nestle in discarded gloves
that once excavated life from rubble.

Signs of where fingers have placed
pulled, proffered offerings
of tight capsules of energy
drawn to the light magnetic force

that bounces off sky high shards of glass.

Here where each individual love gives way to a greater love
United in chaotic order.

If you can weave between
the concrete beanstalks
dropping crumbs of volume
on the pavement
so we will arrive in the silence
that rises to greet you through
lilac's scent.

If you can promise that you
will let the gardens speak
allow a giant cowslip
or peony in her glory
to sing into your eyes.

Then pilgrim, together we will find
the cities sacred heart
ventricular wall marking
season's beats.

Three generations
steeped in
Soil.

Names

people on this earth

the stars and the seas

sail the comets

journey into uncertain planets

portals & create a paradise as

reflected by an endless moon

wrapped in a kikoi sky

will crumble into ochre

& turn curses into blessings/ our

being the conduit

through infinite time.

African

first

we named

our children

for ourselves/ private

names that will open

ancestors see them

lifted outside

any white tongue

speaking the second

names are passports

to multiple worlds
